"Blue Book" is a generic term relating to the color of the book, used by motorcycle dealerships to determine the value of a unit during trade in. It was always intended to be a guideline with factors such as factory options, accessories, mileage, condition, wear and regional popularity. NADA & KBB would collect and track the buying and selling prices of motorcycles from all over the country and print the results, quarterly.

The three types of value are, High Retail - mint condition, low mileage and more buyers then sellers, Low Retail - poor condition, high mileage and more sellers than buyers and Trade in - a middle ground, the dealer could take in one motorcycle to sell another but may have to refurbish the trade.

To maximize the price of a motorcycle, every buyer or seller should research the sold prices of their local newspaper classifieds, craigs list, cycle trader and ebay motors completed items listings to determine the most accurate price and there fore the insurance should pay in the event of a claim.
